Not sure if it matters, but the user is a System Administrator.

Console Log Blank & Cannot Set Log to File

@Naga wrote:

When I view the System Console the "Server Logs" window is an empty white box. Clicking refresh briefly causes a loading icon which then disappears.

When I try to set logging to file to true I get an error "We received an unexpected status code from the server. (500)". Trying to manually set log-to-file to true in config.json prevents mattermost loading on restart.

I am running on Amazon Lightsail and I deployed Mattermost using Cloudron.

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong or where I should try next? I'm new to SSH but I have done a search for any file called mattermost.log and drawn a blank. I can't find any sort of log output anywhere which I need in order to debug incoming hooks I am trying to setup.

Thanks for any help

Black screen on Windows 10

Hello,

This morning, I ran the latest Windows 10 (Enterprise, 64-bit) updates. After my computer rebooted, the whole Mattermost window is now black, except for the title bar (screenshot: http://imgur.com/tIz56mS).

I'm running version 3.4.1 and I also tried 3.5.0-RC2 and the problem is the same.

I don't know if this can help, but I've seen this problem once before: I was trying to enable triple monitor on my video card (NVIDIA NVS3100M) and the Optimus video drivers had all kinds of bugs (general Windows problems, and the Mattermost window was also black). I gave up and disabled Optimus in my BIOS and everything came back to normal, including Mattermost.

Performance issues around email sends

$

@gubbins wrote:

Summary

When posting messages that will result in email sends, noticeable delays are evident. I suspect these are even leading to missing emails.

Steps to reproduce

Using mattermost 3.5 with email send configured with an smtp server, no authentication. Approx 250 users in the team.

Compare:

  • post message to an online user
  • post message to an offline user
  • post @all message in Town Square

Expected behavior

I would expect the interface to respond immediately in all three cases showing the message as posted. I would also expect all the emails to be sent of course.

Observed behavior

Posts to online users appear immediately.
Posts to offline users show a noticeable delay, during which the text is grey and there is a wait icon displayed.
Posts that will result in a lot of emails, like @all in Town Square, can take tens of seconds to appear confirmed.

This effect has become much more noticeable since we moved our mattermost server to a different host, which I suspect is because the communication between the new host and the smtp server is slower.

I suspect (unconfirmed) that we are also getting missing emails when the posting user does not wait for the post to complete. If they instead go to another channel, close their session etc, then I think the emails are not sent. We have had various reports of users failing to get email notifications in situations that they would expect to get them, and the evidence so far would be consistent with this theory although it's difficult to know. There is one known example of an @all post being "abandoned" in this way while still showing the wait icon, and it seems that some users were notified by email while others were not. There are no errors in the log related to email sends.

I am not sure if this only affects users with their email send set to Immediate, but almost all of our users do have that set.

If I'm right about the underlying cause of the slow post and missing emails, I'd suggest that the email sending needs to be pushed to a background thread to resolve these issues.

Any help in further diagnosis would be great - as would any views on whether I am on the right track here!

Sending one message per second on a hook gives me a ConnectionResetError

@toogy wrote:

I need to send one message per second via an incoming web hook. It works for a while but after a few seconds I get a ConnectionResetError (in Python). I checked the Rate limiting settings because my first thought was that Mattermost was preventing this kind of behaviour by kicking the bot out. I have

Enable rate limiting = false
Maximum queries per second = 10
Maximum Burst Size = 3000000
Vary rate limit by remote address = false

Still, I keep getting those connection resets and I don't know why.

Should I keep the connection open between the python program and Mattermost?

Configuration of SSL connection to Database

$

@ogr wrote:

Hello,

we installed the Mattermost Enterprise Edition and currently face a problem with the configuration of a secure database connection.

We want to use the MySQL-Server within our intranet as database for Mattermost and the database connection has to be encrypted with SSL/TLS. Our current SqlSettings look like this:

"DriverName": "mysql",
"DataSource": "database_user:password@tcp(mysql.server:3306)/database_name?charset=utf8&timeout=90s&tls=true"

Do you have an advise how to configure the details for the database connection over SSL/TLS?

We tried the tls=custom url parameter in the DataSource string but couldn't find a way to set the required TLSConfig object using the config files. With tls=true we get the following error:

Failed to ping db err:tls: either ServerName or InsecureSkipVerify must be specified in the tls.Config

Using the tls=skip-verify option works to establish an connection, but doesn't meet our security requirements.

We would be grateful for a good hint.

When a new direct message arrives, I see that red-circle indicator on each of the team's tabs. Then I have to go into each of the teams and click on the direct message to make that indicator disappear.

Steps to reproduce

Mattermost version 3.4.1
When receiving a new direct message, open the app window to see a red indicator on each of the team tabs. Then go to one of the team tabs and select the user from which the message is received to see their message, and only then does the indicator for the team you are on disappears. To remove the indicators on the other team tabs you need to select each tab and select the user from which message is received.

Expected behavior

When a new DM is received either only active team window displays an indicator or only the team tabs to which sender belongs. More importantly, when I select the sender's name on the left nav to expose his/her message, regardless of which team I'm on, the indicators in all team tabs should disappear simultaneously.

SAML (ADFS) Issue: An account with that username already exists

$

@Schuby wrote:

We are running a trial version of MatterMost enterprise to vett it for possible production use. We are encountering an issue with users who have previously signed up with email/password. New users can use SSO just fine as long as their account did not already exist.

Summary

Existing users cannot use SAML SSO. Receive error: "An account with that username already exists. Please contact your Administrator"

Steps to reproduce

Version: 3.5.1

  1. Follow step-by-step these instructions: https://docs.mattermost.com/deployment/sso-saml-adfs.html
  2. Have existing user switch to SSO sign-in under Account Settings.
  3. User clicks on SSO button and receives error.

Expected behavior

Based on following the step-by-step guide, existing users who have a matching email and username to the correct LDAP attributes should be able to automatically login.

Observed behavior

Existing users who click on the SSO button receive: Receive error: "An account with that username already exists. Please contact your Administrator". This is after confirming the username and email match, and switching from email sign-in to SSO.

Logs:

[EROR] Couldn't save the user err=SqlUserStore.Save: store.sql_user.save.username_exists.app_error, user_id=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, Error 1062: Duplicate entry 'xxxxxxx' for key 'Username'

[EROR] /login/sso/saml:SamlInterfaceImpl.DoLogin code=302 rid=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx uid= ip=xx.xx.xx.xxx An account with that username already exists. Please contact your Administrator. [details: SqlUserStore.Save: store.sql_user.save.username_exists.app_error, user_id=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, Error 1062: Duplicate entry 'xxxxxx' for key 'Username']

Troubleshooting steps indicate:

  1. Received error message: An account with that username already exists. Please contact your Administrator.

This usually means an existing account has another authentication method enabled. If so, the user should sign in using that method (such as email and password), then change their sign-in method to SAML via Account Settings > Security > Sign-in method.

This error message can also be received if the Username Attribute of their SAML credentials doesn’t match the username of their Mattermost account. If so, the user can update the attribute at their identity provider (for instance, back to the old value if it had been previously updated).

We confirmed the user has a matching username to the LDAP Username attribute and prevously had the user switch their sign-in method to SSO.

@afrodrumunit wrote:

Summary

Ever since the update, team members using the Mattermost-Desktop app or Chrome browser do not see new messages as they are sent, and need to manually refresh to display new content.

Steps to reproduce

This is an internal Mattermost server, on the local network, configured with Connection Security set to None. Server was migrated from 3.5 to 3.6 without changing the configuration.

Observed behavior

Interestingly, some clients using Edge, Firefox, or the mobile Android app do not have this issue. It seems related to these lines in the server log file:

[2017/01/19 08:33:31 EST] [DEBG] websocket.authTicker: did not authenticate ip=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:50090
[2017/01/19 08:33:31 EST] [DEBG] websocket.read: closing websocket for userId= error=read tcp xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8065->xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:50090: use of closed network connection

and these lines in the client console log:

[] websocket connecting to ws://xxx:8065/api/v3/users/websocket
[] method=getFileInfosForPost status=undefined statusCode=undefined err=Error: Request has been terminated
Possible causes: the network is offline, Origin is not allowed by Access-Control-Allow-Origin, the page is being unloaded, etc.

Websocket works fine via chrome as well, I can see it connecting and I get packets back and forth from it. Email notification and push notifications are both disabled while testing the server.

When I attempt to login via the android app I get "You may be offline or the Mattermost server you are trying to connect to is experiencing problems." The only think I can see form the server end is that adroid recieves GET /api/v3/users/initial_load with a 200 status.

Is there a listing somewhere of what could trigger that message? Is there something in the initial load that android would not like that could cause it to show that message?
